Michigan’s newest electric vehicle charger manufacturing facility will create 133 new jobs next year.

Canadian charging company FLO chose Auburn Hills as its first U.S. facility. The company announced its $3 million investment in June alongside a goal to produce 250,000 EV chargers by 2028 for the U.S. market.

“There is no better location for FLO to plant roots in the U.S. than Michigan – the birthplace of the American auto industry,” said Louis Tremblay, FLO President and CEO.

The manufacturing facility is expected to support 730 jobs by 2028. Additionally its estimated $51.7 million in labor income will be generated for Michigan workers who benefit from the construction and operations of the facility, according to BMW Research.

FLO, a subsidiary of AddEnergie, offers home charging equipment for both single-family houses and multi-unit residential buildings, as well as access to thousands of public charging stations, according to the company website.

The Auburn Hills facility is slated to start production later this year and will continue scaling up workforce and production. It is projected to generate $134 million in revenue from sales of electric vehicle chargers and $76 million in gross state product in the state by 2028.

“Michigan has created a clear roadmap for success for EV charging companies like FLO, providing funding and launching initiatives aimed at expanding charging access and accelerating EV adoption,” Tremblay said. “We look forward to building the efficient, reliable, and safe charging network of tomorrow, right here in Michigan.”

The Quebec-based company received an $800,000 Michigan Business Development Program (MBDP) grant for the project.

Michigan continues to charge forward and compete in a crowded EV landscape.

In addition to billions of dollars invested by Ford and General Motors to support electric vehicle manufacturing, companies within the electric vehicle ecosystem have also settled into the state.

ATESTEO North America, which provides test services for electric vehicle drivetrains and components, established its North American headquarters in East Lansing.

Redford Charter Township will become the new U.S. headquarters for automotive testing company UTAC.

The international company acquired Millbrook Revolutionary Engineering Inc. last year and will use the existing facility to expand into the electric vehicle market with automotive and mobility sector testing.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is currently reviewing an application for a property tax-free zone intended for electric vehicle battery maker Gotion Inc. to build a nearly $2.4 billion factory near Big Rapids.
