Famously featured in Ken Block’s Climbkhana: Pikes Peak video, the HOONICORN RTR V2 is a fully-bespoke, twin-turbocharged beast of a 1965 Ford Mustang that’s powered by a 1,400-hp 6.7-liter Roush Yates V8. And while it’s long been one of the most iconic HOONIGAN cars, the HOONICORN is now being offered as a 1:10th scale remote-control car.
The remote-controlled HOONICORN was born out of a collaboration between HOONIGAN and the RC experts at Team Associated — the same outfit that HOONIGAN collaborated with to deliver the HOONITRUCK RC car. Like the HOONITRUCK, the HOONICORN is based on TA’s Apex2 platform, though the 4WD RC car’s G10 main chassis has been covered with a replica body shell of the heavily-modified RTR-spec Mustang that includes details such as the car’s twin Garrett turbochargers poking out through the hood. Under the proverbial hood, the remote-controlled HOONICORN also boasts a 2.4GHz 2-channel radio system, a Reedy brushed speed control and 3-pole brushed motor, a water-resistant enclosed receiver box, and a “Shorty” battery box housing either a 7.4V or 11.1V LiPo battery pack.
Riding on a replica set of American Racing VF503 wheels, the HOONICORN 4WD RC car also features injection molded brake calipers and rotors, steel dog bones and drive axles, POM-filled injection molded pivot balls, sealed front and rear gear differentials, full metal ball bearings, bolt-on steering plates, adjustable body post height locations, molded one-piece tie rods and steering links, an aluminum motor plate, and G10 shock towers. Completely ready to run right out of the box, the HOONICORN RC car also comes with a battery, charger, and controller.
